Whenever i walk past the 'MAU MAU' bar on Portobello road i cant help recalling the scare stories i heard when i was little about how the Kenyan freedom fighters of the same name were supposed spend all day running around with machetes chopping the hands off anyone who they happened to come across (according to the stories the MAU MAU were still hacking away at limbs many years after independence, Daily mail anyone?), i wonder if tales of that kind had any influence on the owner when he was thinking of something to call his bar?
