THE END OF THE 'CROSSING OF DOOM' IS AT HAND.
Good news for people who have to regularly traverse the 'Crossing of doom', or, as it's known to the rest of us - the junction at Ladbroke Grove and Harrow road.
The junction is at the very point where three local councils meet. Brent, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea all converge at that point (American parlance would have it known as a tri-borough area), and this minor detail had for years frustratingly impeded any previous attempts by concerned people to have some proper crossing put in place, but as no single council wanted to take sole responsibility over the small but lethal area nothing was done (its proximity to a burial ground is totally incidental of course).
But now, thanks to the dogged efforts of some righteous do-gooders the councils have decided to work together on this issue, and as a result, they are going to be putting in 'Red man, Green man' lights, Zebra crossings, 'beeping' noises for the blind 'and everything'.
That there wasn't regular pedestrian accidents or more car and bus crashes at that crossing has been a miracle, the crossing is one of the more scarier ones in west London and is not fun to cross, either on foot or with wheels beneath you, so a real life proper crossing put in place is good news for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers, all of whom feel a tinge of fear and apprehension when approaching the junction.
P.S. sorry about the accompanying picture, but I spent...ages looking for a photo to use, but after the 100th photo of 'Grove by twilight' and moody atmospheric shots of Harrow road in the dark I could feel myself becoming manic so I settled on this one.
