THE WARWICK, PORTOBELLO ROAD.

Friday last saw me and a mate meet up with another old school friend for a drink and a "wot you bin up to" chin wag. After we had met up, the incisiveness about where to go led us to the nearest drinking hole, the Warwick castle, or as its now called 'The castle'. I have to admit, i haven't been in the place since its glory days, it was at least eight or nine years ago that i last ventured in, and i was curious to see for myself how it had changed and who drank in there now.
THE WARWICK, RIGHT- A GOOD NIGHT OUT!
The first thing that drew my eyes when i entered was the door of the mens toilet, it was holding firm to its hinges, memories of it getting knocked clean to the floor came flooding back (ah, the good old days).
As we were happy to find out, despite the place having a (not to my taste methinks) total make over the drinks were still fair priced considering and the place was not as pretentious as i had assumed it might be, it was quite lively, had a happy friendly atmosphere, and there wasn't a single fighting drunk, unconscious dribbling caner, spannered crusty or smelly varnish drinker to be seen, yet it still had a 'pub' atmosphere despite the changes.
Pretty quickly the place filled up till soon the whole pub was packed, then a small band, a trio came on in one corner and got into playing their set of up tempo Spanish music, most of the crowd loved them, everyone was enjoying themselves and there was not a grumbler in sight, a pleasant surprise, especially as we were in the Warwick castle of all places.
It was a good night and i didn't see one growler shove his angry way through the crowd or any kind of altercation happen to spoil it.

One funny thing, when i was looking for a photo of the Warwick to go with this puff i found one on a 'London listings' site, except it was using a photo of a totally different place, i wonder if its because they thought the 'other' pub (left) looked a bit more 'swanky'? (surely not!)
