What is going on? Obama has just been awarded a Nobel prize, and for what?
Although I thought it was a great step for America to be putting their trust in someone who wasn't a 'W.A.S.P.', his 'Democrat' party's policies are traditionally nearer to that of our Tories rather than those of Labour (the old model anyway), and yet they are on the left of American politics! (its enough to make you want to hide under the duvet).
I thought his choice to appoint many of the people involved in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as GM creators, Monsanto's top dogs (to name a few) into his new 'cabinet' put him in the same camp as the ones he just defeated, but he had only been in power a short time so I thought I would give him a chance. Yet so far he has only promised more money and troops for Afghanistan, hardly what one would consider 'peaceful initiatives'.
Then he was awarded the Nobel, and all he had done so far was give the banks loads of cash that he had to borrow off them first anyway in his bailout scheme, and run about the world kissing babies while thousands of people cheered along. All the while, 16.000 U.S. citizens a day are becoming homeless.
The Nobel prizes are awarded for outstanding, long term achievements towards humanity, yet he's not actually famous or known for doing anything, except express wishes for a nuclear free future (who hasn't?).
I do hope he is different,but we don't know that yet, and so far he doesn't deserve that prize, simply because he hasn't earn't it It would be lovely if he did, but unless the Nobel panel all have he gift of future sight, I think they may of been just a little bit premature.
I'm just trying to work out why he was given the thing in the first place, for sure there is a story behind his win.
