BRITISH HORROR FILMS

"I aint sophisticated" -the Ruts 1977.
lets be honest, horror films are not the deepest of all of the film genre's, like pop music, they are just supposed to be entertainment of the moment, Penny dreadful's that move.
But, it is a well known fact that we humble (ahem) Brits have been kicking Hollywood's flabby 'butt' around for the last few years in regards to the horror film genre. And while our boots go sinking into their flabby cellulite dripping 'butts', all their  horror film makers (as well as other Genre's, as it goes) can do is panic. Usually they then, in desperation look to their back catalogue for old film hits to remake. They have become so memorised by the latest computer effects that they have used them to replace new plots and decent acting, an unfair trade off I reckon.
They're using tons of fake blood, but not more than a few drops of plot, ideas or any decent characters, with the first of the 'Saw' films being one of the only exceptions, and even that has gone on too far, like old refried chips, the new ones are stale, they should of stopped with number two, or three at most. The Friday the 13th 'franchise' being revived and remade is about all else I have to/can, say in their defence.Over all, "guilty" is the verdict.
Meanwhile, Brit (often U.S. funded, lets be honest) led horror films are knocking along apace. For my mind, Dog Soldiers was the marker for the prominence of modern British horror films.
Hollywood meanwhile was (and still is) getting lost for ideas and went backwards, despite hiring huge teams of writers for films. Now they just remake Asian Ghost films or, as I've said, re-make their own. Three times over in some cases.
The only legitimate crown they hold at the moment is that of the 'Superhero' film, yet even that genre has a large 'Brit' presence, British writer/artist Alan Moore's comic that was adapted (that he refused to have anything to do with) called 'Watchmen' was a good 'un, maybe the best 'Superhero' film yet, there was 'V' for vendetta (a brilliantly written ten part modern British classic comic), another adaptation (and a shambles that could of quite possibly had something to do with Moore's decision not to have anything what so ever to do with Watchmen, and I don't blame him, a modern comic classic, murdered and abused like that).
(I admit, I'm a film geek, I've got the film geek bug bad, have had for years, the young 'un thinks I'm mental because I can watch a black and white film, she thinks films aren't complete without flashing colours. I only got rid of my last B+W TV about ten years ago and don't notice when a films in B+W, as long as the story is good what difference does it make?).

The British horror film industry though is trotting along quite happily though, with  '28 days later', (the sequel was a bit ropey, I admit), Creep, Descent, Dog soldiers, Outpost and a bunch of other recent British led horror films -including the 'geek reference paradise' of the alien/horror spoof called 'Evil Aliens' (the scene where a man is forced by aliens to be given an 'invasive' anal intrusion is a bit gross I admit, but funny in context) currently leads the way in the genre, Meanwhile, Hollywood is just running along side, trying to keep up.
All these films featuring British actors and actresses, directors and/or producers, are knocking out great horror time and again. And if the new 'Descent' sequel is only half as good as the first part, we're in for a treat.

PHOTO, KYRSTEN CUMMINGS WHO APPEARS IN 'DESCENT 2' AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, A LOCAL BAND!

All this film geekery compels me to mention the fact that one Ms 'Krysten Cummings' (pictured above), who just happens to be a singer in the 'Rotten Hill Gang', also features in the sequel to 'Descent'.
The band are themselves busy  putting on what they have termed the "Rotten Hill Revue", including a series of gigs that features some top music, bands and more, so check out the link to the revue below, it goes on till new years eve/day.
Sadly it started in November (alas), but still has some seriously good stuff lined up. (yes I know I'm useless)
Here's the link for the revue that the band is putting on. With a line up that can only compel you to definitely attend, just click the words and off you go.
