OOPS AHH, BUGGER

Cycling downwards along Great Western road Friday I found the corner with Westbourne Park Road shut and Firemen putting out a 'chemical fire' (that's all they would say) in the corner of the estate while Police directed traffic and pedestrians.
We were all being redirected through the Brunel estate, craning our necks to see what was going on, when I noticed that I had not only stepped in but my bike was also in a big shiny, oily, greasy puddle/pool beside the shop in the block facing the bus stop. I didn't at first realise how slippery my bike would be till I tried to get on it and had gone a few feet when the bike slipped from under me and sent me sprawling into the middle of Westbourne Park Road. Thank God the road had been closed as I was sent to the floor in a sprawling heap on top of the fire hoses.
Oh what a laugh the Police, Firemen, evacuated residents and spectators had at my expense.
Mumble-grumble.
