...UNLIMITED SUPPLY
I was thinking about bands associated with this area when I remembered that the Stranglers were also residents of Ladbroke Grove during the late 1970's and early 1980's, in various places along the Grove (many being squats).
This memory lane wallow session also brought to mind the video they made for the song they released as a single called 'Something better change' in the summer of 1977.
The video starts with the band as they come running, Beatles like out of a housing block on Powis square, then very briefly along the Grove past the bridge at Barlby road. The camera then pans down the old steps leading to Middle Row where it settles on the band who are now at the bottom with their gear all set up playing along to the song.
Stranglers fan or not, the video is interesting in that we see the local area as it was in 1977, Sadly though, EMI the owners of the video have not let anyone else use the video, so I can't put it up here to be seen, but it can still be watched at You tube, just type in their name and the song (...you never know, some people don't go to You tube).
The area doesn't look too bad from what you can see of it in the video, not run down or decrepit (it wasn't that bad anyway, it was just the way it was used in The Sweeney that made it look like that), the bright sunny day that it was recorded on also helped I'm sure, but still you can see very obviously what locations it was shot at.
Look it up.
