I saw in the newpaper today that the Royal mail have had a great idea, and are getting ready to release a new set of stamps featuring ten different album sleeves from different British bands "through the Rock'n'roll years".
As well as being a cool idea that will generate hours of debate in pubs and front rooms nationwide about what bands and covers should and shouldn't of been included, it also features one LP cover that you can't argue with, and that's 'London Calling' by non other than that utterly brilliant band of local lads 'The Clash'.
Featuring the Clash alone will have certain people I know buying up at least two sets with covers and all the extra bumpf that helps to keep the stamps in mint condition, as well as buying a load to send off to people abroad. And judging by my guess about their predicted enthusiasm, the fortunes of the Royal mail could be turned around over night by fans of the other bands as well. What with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, New Order, Blur and Bowie being among the rest, the collection is sure to be a best seller (but Tubular Bells?!).
I have to say, doesn't the Clash one look cool!
The collection is set for a January 07th 2010 release date.
